English

Learning English can help a student to unlock their creative potential while at the same time develop practical skills that will help them with their careers in the future. Understanding, using, and creating oral, written, and visual texts of increasing complexity is at the heart of English teaching and learning. By engaging with text-based activities, students become increasingly skilled and sophisticated speakers and listeners, writers and readers, presenters and viewers.

At James Cook High School our passionate English teachers take your child from year 9 through to level three English. We try to ensure that our year 11 and 12 programmes offer students ample opportunity to satisfy NCEA level 1 and university entrance requirements.

Our teachers are constantly reviewing content and learning outcomes to make sure that the Department provides appropriate interesting content, continuity and flexibility between the years and the curriculum levels.
