LEVEL 1 SUBJECTS OFFERED

HEALTH 1HEA
You will improve your understanding of health and develop skills for coping with life’s successes and failures. Topic covered include enhancing well-being, managing change, sexuality, nutrition and drugs; learning is based on key concepts such as hauora, personal, interpersonal and societal influences. There is a mix of Internal and External assessments offered.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 1PHE
You will develop knowledge of ourselves and others, and the social skills that contribute to positive relationships. You will explore how and why we move in ways we do, and learn about the social, cultural and scientific influences on the movement culture. Topics include athletics, anatomy and biomechanics of weight training, and performance improvement strategies. This course only offers Internal assessments.

SPORTS LEADERSHIP 1SPL
You will build knowledge and understanding around sports and physical activity through participation in a wide range of contexts, including fitness-based programmes, and sports and leisure activities. This course will benefit you if you’re looking to get yourself and others active as well as improve the quality of performance in selected sports. This course only offers Internal assessments.

LEVEL 2 SUBJECTS OFFERED

OUTDOOR EDUCATION 2OED
You will have opportunities to develop personal and social skills, to become active, safe, and skilled in the outdoors, and to protect and care for the environment. Topics we cover include risk management through water safety, tramping experience, day skipper’s qualification and high/low ropes experience. This course only offers Internal assessments.

SPORTS LEADERSHIP 2SPL
You will have the opportunity to develop effective delivery skills in the practical sport and recreation environment, gaining an increased knowledge of the sport and recreation area. You will also develop specific sport skills, both in delivery and as a participant. This course only offers Internal assessments.

HEALTH 2HEA
You will investigate and apply the fundamental concepts of Health in a range of topics including sexuality and gender, managing change, and community action. This course offers a mix of Internal and External assessments.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2PHE
You will appraise, develop, and share strategies to improve performance, and use critical thinking to consider how values shape beliefs and attitudes. Topics covered include performance in sport, methods of training, biophysical principles and significance of physical activity. This course only offers Internal assessments.

LEVEL 3 SUBJECTS OFFERED

ADVENTURE LEADERSHIP 3ADV
You will develop and improve leadership skills and physical fitness, as well as learning and developing resilience. This course involves outdoor activities including tramping, sailing and other high-intensity physical challenges. You will need to maintain attendance at 90% or better in order to meet course requirements. This course only offers Internal assessments.

SPORTS LEADERSHIP 3SPL
You will have the opportunity to develop effective delivery skills in the practical sport and recreation environment, gaining an increased knowledge of the sport and recreation area. You will also develop specific sport skills, both in delivery and as a participant. This course only offers Internal assessments.

HEALTH 3HEA
You will build knowledge in the four underlying Health concepts of hauora, attitudes and values, the socio-ecological perspective, and health promotion. Your topics of study will include analysing alcohol use by 15-24-year olds in New Zealand, evaluating health practices used in New Zealand, analysing a contemporary ethical issue (abortion, euthanasia, or same sex marriage) and analysing Type 2 Diabetes in the South Pacific. This course only offers Internal assessments.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 3PHE
You will reflect on your past physical activity experiences to devise strategies for lifelong well-being as an adult through physical activity, and discover a variety of contemporary leadership models and principles. Your class will also work together as a committee, using a “Health Promotion Model” to plan, run and review an event for 6 weeks for a chosen target group. Planning and running this event will involve practising and evaluating leadership models. You will commit to playing in an ongoing inter-school competition, to demonstrate quality performance in a School Sports Team. This course only offers Internal assessments.
